Cruising the Clyde from Largs on the Waverley
The PS Waverley made a welcome return to Largs on Easter Monday 2001
(our pictures)
after a complete £4 million refit in 2000.
Restored to her 1947 standards, she made a brief visit back in August 2000,
and now returns for a normal season's cruising.
The Waverley is the last ocean-going paddle-steamer, and also makes cruises from Ireland, Wales and the South
Coast of England, but her main watering hole is right here on the River Clyde.
She is popularly called The Pride of the Clyde as was the great Queen Mary before.
The official site has full timetables so we won't keep up-to-date ones here,
but we do have our hastily done
Easter timetable to be getting on with, and a
PDF version as well.
It's a great day out for all the family, or if you've more time you could go for the 5 day Western Isles
trip in May for £109. You could stay over in Oban which is almost a sister town of Largs in a way,
but with its own unique and charming character as the gateway to the Western Isles.

Supporting cruise ship - The MV Balmoral
Visit the
official MV Balmoral website.
She also has
September sailings on the River Clyde, stopping at Largs on the 22nd and 24th.
This timetable we will include later as there's little of it.
Meanwhile here's a tantalising glimpse of her from last year as she passed by my window!
